Bell peppers are members of the Nightshade family of vegetables along
with potatoes, tomatoes and eggplants. Like chili peppers, bell peppers
originated in South America where seeds of a wild variety are believed to
date back to 5,000 B.C. The various colored Bell Peppers all come from the
same plant, but differ in their level of maturity:

Yellow bell capsicums achieve their wonderful colour simply because they
left on the plant longer before picking. They are glossy, smooth-skinned,
and blocky (10-12cm long by 6-10cm across). Their thick walls enclose a
large hollow and segments which their seeds are attached to.
Flavour
Capsicums, also known as sweet peppers, are closely related to chillies,
but are sweeter and not hot to eat.
Nutrition
Like all capsicums, yellow capsicums are a good source of vitamins A and C
and provide dietary fibre.

Seasonality

Available from January to December.
In the field

Capsicums grow on small bushes which become highly ornamental once
the fruit starts to appear.
How to select

Select yellow capsicums which are firm, with glossy, unwrinkled skin.
Avoid dull looking capsicum with soft spots or blemishes.
