place and maintain correct gauge and alignment. They are placed horizontally beneath the
rails and transfer the

system.

Traditionally made from hardwood timber such as oak, teak, or eucalyptus, railway sleepers
are now also
produced from concrete, steel, and composite materials for increased durability and longer
service life. Wooden
sleepers are treated with preservatives to resist moisture, insects, and decay, making them
suitable for outdoor
and heavy-load conditions.

Railway sleepers are widely used in rail infrastructure, bridges, and track foundations. They
